What to expect

Treatments and prescriptions are tailored to each individual's characteristics and requirements, making each prescription unique and totally personalised.

An initial consultation will normally take about one hour. During this time, we will discuss your condition, family and medical history, diet and lifestyle plus any conventional treatments you may be taking. You will be asked a lot of questions. I may use iridology (looking into the iris), tongue, nail or pulse diagnosis and take your blood pressure to get a better picture of your health.

Consultations are confidential and Juniper complies with data protection laws.

Dispensing herbs

Once all of the information is gathered, we discuss your treatment plan and a herbal remedy will be prepared. The treatment plan may include advice on diet, lifestyle, exercise and other suitable remedies. Below are descriptions of some of the herbal preparations I usually dispense:

Tinctures: alcohol-based preparations for internal use. Non-alcoholic alternatives are also available (herbal syrups or vinegars).

Whole herb/teas: used to make infusions where the herb is steeped in boiling water or decoctions where the material is boiled for a longer period

Syrups: herbs or extracts are incorporated into sweet liquids

Powders/capsules: dried plant material which may be taken internally or used externally

Creams/lotions/oils: infusions or decoctions incorporated within a soothing liquid preparation to be used externally on the skin

I may also recommend or make the following:

Poultices: moistened herbs kept in place by a cloth for localised healing

Compresses: generally a soft cloth wrung out of a hot or cold infusion or decoction and applied to the affected area

Juices or smoothies: for additional, easily digested nutrition

Steam inhalations: to ease respiratory conditions

Baths and skin washes, gargles or mouthwashes, pessaries and suppositories.

“What do I need

Whilst every care is taken to provide you with the highest level of care and security, herbal medicine, as with any medicines can cause reactions which differ from person to person. Always seek the advice and medicines of a qualified Herbalist.
